Tummy Time!

Good News! Araceli gained some more weight on her return trip to the doctor this week. Last week (6 days ago), she had gone up to 7 lbs, 7 oz. Today, she was up to 7 lbs, 13.5 oz. She is back on schedule to gain her ounce per day and the doctor said that everything looks normal. To try to build up her strength and muscles, we've been encouraged to keep her on her stomach, so that she can learn to lift & turn her head. She's still working on it (and really doesn't like it), but here's one of her sessions. Let's see how much progress she makes in the coming weeks.

Family Day at Church

The family went to church service this morning. Araceli did fine and seemed to like the music during the service. We were both looking down every 30 seconds to check on Araceli to see how she did. It was good for all of us to get out and develop the core that will shape us as a family.

Pastor Donnie was finishing up his "Unlimited" series and was dealing with the issue of uncertainty in our lives. It seemed very appropriate considering that we have an 8-day old baby and her life could be whatever she wanted it to be. It was also very appropriate for us as new parents with the questions that we will face throughout her life and wondering if the choices that we make will lead her in the right direction.

This passage was shared during the sermon. It gives us the answer to our family in any uncertainty that we may face in the future. It was incredibly appropriate for our first church service together.

Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Baby's Day Out

Today, we decided to get out of the house and practice walking around with Araceli in a stroller. We went to a Sami Show (Arts, Crafts, Gifts) at the Dell Diamond. We had no idea how many of the booths catered to babies! We hadn't even got through a third of the booths without having a some cute things for Araceli already (bows, hippo doll, a personalized CD).

Of course, Araceli was out like a light (she had just finished feeding) and was not aware of anything that was going on. Everyone at the show was aware of her though. First, they couldn't believe she was out and only a week old. Secondly, she received so many compliments about being "precious, adorable, beautiful" and "an angel." After a couple of hours, we left to go get groceries at HEB. Araceli wakes for her next feeding at that time. Daddy took her out to the car to feed her while mommy finished up the last part of the shopping list. Daddy had a tougher time with the feeding and having to change a very dirty diaper in the car (it just HAD to be done). Another first for Daddy.....no, not changing a diaper, but changing a diaper in a car (not as easy as at home).

Araceli had her "Horns Up" today as she went out on the town and she definitely is a sweetheart in burnt orange! So as we look forward to the beginning of the Big 12 baseball schedule, we can only say, "Hook 'Em, Horns!"

Steps in the Right Direction.....

We went back to the doctor today to check Araceli's weight. When we went yesterday, she was 7 lbs 2 oz (4.5 oz lighter than when she left the hospital on Monday). After the appointment, the doctor told us to do supplemental feedings with formula after the breastfeeding.

First benefit of that supplemental feeding came last night. Araceli had her first good night of sleep. She only woke up to feed and it was done in no more than 30 minutes or so. Her feedings were 2-3 hours the two previous nights and she was very fussy. After she got a full tummy last night, she went right back to sleep (so did mommy and daddy).

The second benefit came today at the doctor's office. In just 24 hours of supplemental feedings, her weight was up to 7 lbs 7 oz (gained 5 oz). It was a good turnaround for her and she definitely has not been as fussy during the day today (unless she doesn't have her chupee). Since she was going back to the doctor, she needed another bath. Then she waited patiently at the doctor's office until we got back home with her chupee. As you can see, she can already do the "Hook Em Horns" sign while she holds her chupee in her mouth!

Way to Go, Daddy!!!

We went to the doctor today for a check-up. Araceli was borderline jaundice when we left the hospital, so the doctor wanted to check her again. She is still borderline jaundice, but it is a very low risk. She was definitely the cutest little patient in the whole doctor's office!

Araceli has lost some weight since we left the hospital, so we're trying some supplemental feedings to go along with the breast feeding. Daddy steps in to help!! Daddy finally has a chance to help out when Araceli is hungry and is ready for the call when late night/early morning feedings are needed for our all-star!

Here are some pics of her outfit for the doctor's visit and Daddy helping out with Celi. We'll head back tomorrow for another weight check.

Araceli's First Bath

There are always new things that any baby (and new parents) will be a little apprehensive about---the first baby bath is definitely one of them. Araceli came out looking clean and went through it like a champ! Adri did most of the cleaning of baby girl and Daddy was the "Papa"razzi. :o) Here are a couple of pics of our clean little angel during the bath. One of the pics is really cute because she looks so thankful that the body washing portion is finished!

Thanks to all of our family and friends--especially the grandparents

We would like to thank all of our family and friends that came to the hospital in support of our new family on Araceli's birthday, especially the proud new grandparents--Carmela & Pedro Alvarez and Manuel & Anita Lunoff.

We appreciate all of your love and support as we welcomed Araceli to the world and our family! Here are a couple of pics of the proud grandparents with their new granddaughter!

Welcome to Our Blog and our new life with our family! We created this blog to share our lives and daily experiences with our new daughter, Araceli, over the Web with family and friends.

Araceli was born on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 12:23 PM in Round Rock, Texas. She weighed 7 lbs, 14 oz and was 20 inches long. Mama, Daddy, and baby are all home now and doing well adjusting to their new schedules. Here are some pictures of Araceli's first day on this Earth with us.
